Natural Strengthening Of The Brain.

There are several supplements available that claim to increase the strength of your mind. Do they work?

Just as athletes take nutritional supplements to improve their physical performance, some people hope to sharpen their intelligence with what is called a “brain impulse.”

Of course, birth control pills can’t make you witty if you’re not one, and then hit the grunn style. So what exactly are brain reinforcements?

“This could mean a lot of things,” says Ray Sahelian, MD, author of Mind Boosters and the family doctor at Marina Del Ray. “It could mean herbs or nutrients that improve thinking clarity, alertness, focus, concentration, memory and even moods.” California

“For the most part, people will notice that they are more focused and alert, that they are more excited and that they are processing the information faster,” he says.

That is, if they notice any effect.

Sahil says: “Some people have tried and received benefits. Others may not have noticed anything.”

Brain stimulators may seem to stimulate mental activity, but they are not stimuli in the strict sense of the word, such as caffeine, ephedrine or amphetamines. In many cases, nobody really knows how to behave in the brain.

“Herbs will have several different compounds in them, unlike drugs such as amphetamine, which is basically a compound, a molecule,” says Sahlian. “The herbs will contain a group of several or several dozen compounds in them. It is difficult to determine which one is the most active or if a combination of many of them produces the result.”

In general, the idea that herbs or nutrients can increase mental capacity has not been demonstrated.

There was not much research on whether an intelligent and healthy young man could mentally improve under the influence of popular brain stimulators, and when the research was conducted, the results varied.

Herbs To Think About

Many recent research has focused on ginkgo biloba, which is the leaf of the ginkgo tree, which is native to China and one of the oldest plants on the planet.

Ginkgo is especially interesting for researchers because of its ability to treat Alzheimer’s disease and age-related mental deterioration. Numerous studies have shown that they help these conditions, and are routinely described in places like Germany and France.

It is believed that Ginkgo works by diluting the blood and thus improving the flow of oxygen to the brain. The brain is an oxygen bulimia, so poor blood circulation can affect its performance.

As brain support for people with normal mental abilities, it remains controversial.

For example, a study published in the journal Psychopharmacology in 2000 found that ginkgo improved attention. A 2001 study in the journal Human Psychopharmacology indicated that it works to improve memory. However, in a review of studies on ginkgo in healthy people, the researchers found no good evidence that it improved mental abilities, according to a 2002 report in the Psychopharmacology Bulletin.

Ginkgo biloba should not be taken with any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as aspirin or ibuprofen because they also weaken the blood. The combination of the two can cause excessive bleeding. The same goes for anticoagulants such as warfarin.

Huperzine A, derived from the Chinese moss Huperzia seratta, is another herb that has been studied as a possible treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. It can also function as a brain support in healthy people, but few studies have investigated this.

A study conducted outside of China showed that it improved memory and learning in a small group of students. “It has been used much more in China than in the United States,” says Sahel.

Huperzine-A seems to block an enzyme in the brain that breaks down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. Acetylcholine contains information through synapses, the distance between brain cells. “There is more acetylcholine in the brain, so it can be useful in memory,” says Sahlian.

Meal For The Mind

Beyond herbs, various nutrients can act as brain support.

The omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oils and docosahexenoic acid (DHA) is believed to be important for the brain of the developing child. DHA can also act as a brain support by helping brain cells communicate, depending on the coast.

“Interestingly, the lining of our brain cells is very concentrated with fatty acids, especially DHA,” he says.

In a 1999 review of studies on DHA, published in the journal Research Pharmacology, he discovered that nutrients are necessary for normal brain function and that a diet rich in DHA improves learning, while DHA deficiency causes the ability to learn .

“Among other things that I really like, Acetil L Carnatine. This has become very popular,” says Sahlian.

Acetyl-L-carnitine can act as a brain support by helping to maintain brain cells. Not much is known about its effects on healthy people, but one study found that people with Alzheimer’s disease and mild memory impairment benefited from taking it.

Although there is no evidence, Sahel says he believes it improves mental focus and alertness. “I noticed the effect in two hours,” he says. “It also excites one more, and you can concentrate better and do things faster.”

DMAE (dimethyl aminoethanol), also believed to alter acetylcholine levels in the brain, is another level that Sahlan says he can obtain based only on anecdotal evidence. There is little scientific evidence to support claims that it improves mental capacity.

However, “most people within 1 or 2 hours after taking it will notice that they are thinking faster and more acutely and that they have a better approach,” he says.

He says that eating too much can cause side effects such as restlessness, irritation and tension in the neck muscles.

Be Smart

All of these things are nutritional supplements, not medications, so they are not subject to the strict approval process to which medications are subject. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) limits the claims that manufacturers can make about nutritional supplements to some extent, but still has the right to judge itself.

If you are willing to withdraw some cash, for example, a bottle of 60 capsules of acetyl-L-carnitine, priced at 250 mg, and sells for around $ 20, you can find something you want. But it is a trial and error process.

“It’s hard to predict how an individual will respond. There are no studies of blood or shots in the spine or anything we can do that tells us:” Well, this is the perfect herb for you, “says Sahlian.

The coast also indicates that brain reinforcements will not help you if you sleep little. “Deep sleep, anything, is perhaps the most important factor in maintaining memory and clarity of thought throughout the day,” he says.
